Life Itself is Grace

Dear Minster and Friends,

Happy New Year!

What is on the horizon for you? Before launching yourself into your dreams and hopes and vowing never to eat another mince pie as long as you live- may I share with you something we have done as a family for many years on or around New year.

Try writing down three things you would like to give thanks to God for. A high point, an answered prayer, a holiday which refreshed you, a friendship you value. How has God shown you his kindness in the previous year. Try to find a context where you can share this with at least one or two other people.

Then write down one spiritual aim for the year to come which is personal to you. Would you like to find more time to meet with God, read the scriptures, pray with others? Would you like to grow and develop a specific spiritual gift? Is there an area specifically of character reform you are aiming for in your life? Perhaps a fruit of the Spirit- JOY? Faithfulness? Peace? And if you are with others- share this and pray out loud for yourself and each other. Finish with a blessing.

With much love,

Listen to your life.
See it for the fathomless mystery that it is.
In the boredom and the pain of it
No less than in the excitement and the gladness:
Touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it
Because in the last analysis
All moments are key moments
And life itself is grace.
