Read & Consider
Read Exodus 33.13-14
Moses, having been given the responsibility of leading a disobedient and ‘stiff-necked’ people, continues to petition God to travel with Israel, reminding the Lord of his promises. He dreads the thought of continuing without the Lord’s presence. It’s through grace that God responds, reinforcing in that moment this truth: His presence is sufficient : “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (V14) ESV
When we are called into the unknown, it’s wise to be surrendered as best as we can to God’s leading: “Now therefore, if I have favour in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favour in your sight” (V13) ESV, but we must also realise that we do not face this alone. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26) ESV.
Take courage in God’s abounding grace.
Over to you
- a revelation of the Holy Spirit as the near and present helper to us, as individuals and the church
- the deep rest for the weary and burdened that can only be found in our Creator
- a greater understanding that God’s presence is sufficient to see us through to the “promised land”
As Moses ‘reminded’ God of His past promises to Israel, consider what God has spoken to you in the past, that you may have forgotten?
Speaking from experience, it’s difficult feeling out of control. Maybe take today to lean into the Lord as Moses did, and ask yourself: is His presence sufficient for me, in the unknown of my life?
