Read & Consider
Read Exodus 33.17-18
How often do we breeze our way into times of worship or prayer, with our minds still half on the details of the day, and our hearts full of worry or pride? It’s easy to sing about the presence and the glory of God, and quite another to appreciate what it means to be in it.
Moses didn’t want to move forward on the journey without the presence of God. And as proof of that, he asks to see God’s glory. Incredibly, God says yes!
Why? “Because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.” We know that Moses was broken, fearful, prideful, insecure… and yet God says that he is pleased with him and knows him by name. His faltering, obedient heart was valuable to the Father, and He was committed to the long haul of this journey with him.
Over to you
- The Holy Spirit to help us hear the words of the Father, “I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”
- The courage and faith to ask the Lord for what we want to see him do among us
- An outpouring of grace and love from the church in our nation to those who don’t yet know the Lord
What do you think God thinks about you?
How can you practically demonstrate the good news of God’s acceptance and love to someone close to you, who doesn’t know him yet? Can you let go of a frustration you have with them? Can you take an interest in something they love? Is there a practical task you can complete for them?
Optional extra Family activity
Write down the names of everyone in your family, then write down things you like about them using the letters of their name. e.g. JESUS: Joyful, Excellent at everything, Sovereign, Understanding, Simply the best 😉 Spend some time thanking God for each person.
