Read & Consider
Read Exodus 40. 34-38
When I first read this passage, what struck me was how the Israelites were on God’s timetable. They were not impacted by external factors such as their family or their work. When the cloud descended, they stayed where they were and did not go anywhere as the glory of the Lord filled the tent. God also provided them with a visual image to help keep their eyes fixed on Him: by day the cloud, and by night the sky was filled with fire. Anecdotally, I am aware that during lockdown many of us having been spending additional time with God in prayer, mediation, worship and in reading scripture which creates a challenge as to how we continue these new rhythms as lockdown is eased.
Over to you
- Teach us to be still in God’s presence
- Help us to fix our eyes on God
- Help us as a church and as individuals to be Spirit-led in our decisions
What do we use as our visual image to help keep us focused on God?
How can you make more space to hear from God when he wants to speak?
Optional extra Family activity
Make a special tent/space where you can spend time with God.
