Pray Today: Day 39, Taking the City

Read & Consider

Read Joshua Joshua 6. 2-5

Consider

What do you think Joshua expected as he and his men stood outside of Jericho – a battle, a long siege? Joshua listened to God and acted upon his instructions, although I imagine God’s instructions weren’t what Joshua expected. Our God is a God of surprises!  We normally don’t know what is going happen to us next, God just asks us to be obedient. Sometimes it is not as we anticipated, sometimes we may feel we look foolish, but it is God’s way not our way.

Over to you

Pray for

  • Us to lose our inhibitions and to step into all that God wants to offer us.
  • That we will listen to God, be obedient, bold and strong, and tell everyone about the good news of Jesus.

Question

As people or as a church, do we often think we know the answer before we ask God rather than being open to His response?

Challenge

Pause, listen, visualize the army marching, hear the trumpets blowing, ask God how you need to respond to an ongoing challenge in your life that needs resolving. Expect the unexpected!

Optional extra Family activity

Make a homemade trumpet or bugle. Be creative with the materials you use. An old plastic bottle/rolled up card, and decorate it. Ask your family what they find a challenge in their lives and write it on the trumpet. Pray together and ask God to help you to overcome it.
