Forest Fires

With so many restrictions that have entered our lives through the necessary steps for health during the corona crisis, we have had to adjust to all the things we cannot now do, and schools going back with new rules and regulations.

One of the things that is possible is to meet outdoors as long as we keep social distance, people can lead worship, others can stand or sit around camp fires in smaller groups .

Starting this Sunday and running for 6 months is a new Mission Initiative, and a series of events we are calling Forest Fires. We will be trying new things out, experiment with a simple set up up in the woods, and learn how to use the outdoors as a starting point for mission and encounter with God. We will also be developing a simple web app for events outdoors, and sharing our findings with a group of churches and church leaders who have asked to be kept informed. A small team will host.

It will not run on the gathered Sundays – usually the third Sunday of the Month e.g 20th September.

Practical stuff:

  • While at Stampwell farm, please keep to social distancing guidelines of 1+ to 2m with anyone not inside your family unit or social bubble.
  • Nobody should attend an event with symptoms of corona virus or who is shielding or is quarantined.
  • hand washing and sanitising facilities are on site, and hands should be cleaned upon entry and regularly in line with government guidelines.
  • You will have your temperature checked on entry to stampwell farm.
  • Those who visit should register with track and trace using a QR code displayed around the farm. Details will be deleted after a few weeks, and no records will be used for any other reason than government guidelines.
  • Entrance and exits into the wood are clearly marked.
  • Social distance spaces are marked on the forest floor.
  • Children, if attending with parents, need to remain with their family group and in the care of their parents. There is no separate children’s provision.
  • Bring your own camping chair and snacks if you are peckish, and a hot drink in a thermos. No refreshments will be served by event organisers at this time.
  • Dress for the weather and for the outdoors.
  • Facemasks will not be mandatory, as this is outside, but will need to be worn if government advice changes.
  • Parking will be in the orchard, but you can drive up to the entrance to the woods to drop off.
  • Disabled access: though there are no steps, attendees should be advised that the event is outside and the ground is uneven, which could make wheelchair access difficult in bad weather.

What to expect

A modest gathering of enthusiasts in the woods – with input on a specific passage, a Bible reading, with questions and discussions around a fire, a performance of poetry, drama or music, a very simple worship set up, and a chance to do a prayer walk or other activity around the farm. It will be short – though you can make your way to the farm earlier for prayer, walking and meeting others, and event will begin at noon and last 45 minutes. If the weather is good you can bring a picnic for afterwards and are free to spend more time on the farm.
