His Name Shall Be…

Dear Minster and Friends,

It feels as though the Christmas season is now fully upon us. For some this might be an unsettling thought, but we are now less than two weeks away from the big day! In the business of our commercialised Christmas and oh-so familiar seasonal traditions it can be all too easy to forget the reason for the season. Advent is a time of waiting, and perhaps the best thing we can do to draw close to the one we await at this time of year, is to meditate upon his character…

In a time of waiting hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah declared that his name shall be called…
Wonderful Counsellor
One who consoles us in trials, offering us guidance, wisdom, healing and revelation.
Mighty God
One who is strong enough to fight our battles, and defeat even our greatest enemies.
Everlasting Father
One who knows us better than we know ourselves, yet loves us unconditionally into eternity.
Prince of Peace
One who calms storms with just a word, and does the same in our restless hearts and broken world.

This time of year can be difficult for so many. Take a moment to wait upon our coming King Jesus who has a name perfectly suited to meet you wherever you’re at today, and who longs to draw near to you. You may just find your waiting turning into wonder, and your wonder turning to worship!

Our Carol Service this Sunday provides us with a fantastic opportunity to be in wonder together as we explore this theme ‘His Name Shall Be’, and worship through some brilliant sounding carols! You can expect a warm welcome, we hope to see you and your families and friends there!

Every blessing,

Ollie
