New Year

Dear Minster and Friends,

“Being hurried is an inner condition, a condition of the soul. It means to be so preoccupied with myself and my life that I am unable to be fully present with God, with myself, and with other people. I am unable to occupy this present moment. Busy-ness migrates to hurry when we let it squeeze God out of our lives….I cannot live in the kingdom of God with a hurried soul. I cannot rest in God with a hurried soul.” John Ortberg

As we commence 2019 at the Minster our hope is to take a couple of months to focus on and rest in Jesus. This means we are being deliberate in not merely doing for the sake of doing but rather taking space to really be in God’s presence. This Sunday, as we kick off the year, we will be continuing in Lukes’ gospel looking at Jesus’ approach to the sabbath. Interestingly Jesus still did work on the sabbath; on numerous occasions he healed people, but he always did it in an unhurried manner and always with the Father. It’s ok to be busy, but when that busy-ness squeezes the life of the spirit out of us we are headed for a crash. Why not take a moment before the new year get’s into full swing to think about the state of your soul this past 12 months. Was it a hurried soul, discontented and frazzled or was it an unhurried soul, always present to the Fathers’ presence, will and enabling? Think about what it might look like for you to live in a more unhurried away. What would it take? How might you work from a place of knowing the Fathers presence continually energising and enabling you?

With much love,

Tash
