Leaning Well

Dear Minster and Friends,

‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding’ Proverbs 3:5

It is often said that faith and trust are similar concepts and that to put your faith in something is like leaning your weight on something. So to trust a chair is to sit on it and to believe that it will take your weight – even after Christmas!

The journey to wisdom, which Proverbs calls us to, suggests that we can get into the habit of ‘leaning on our own understanding’ – of relying on our own problem solving, insight and decision making; even when life gets increasingly quick and complex.

Have you ever tried to solve difficult decisions by writing a list of pros and cons and then realised that after you have compared and contrasted it all comes back to where you started – you still don’t know what to do.

It is important instead to lean and put our weight on the Lord – rely on Him to bear the weight of our decisions, our problems and our successes. The numerous consequences of every daily decision are able to be handled by the Lord.

And as I have been praying about this with several others over the last ten days I am sensing that we can LEAN on the Lord corporately as well as individually. So on 31st January I am calling for a day of prayer, maybe even to fast, and asking that if anyone is able to join us we would gather from 8pm – 9pm in the tent for some fervent prayer. We will be praying for our church, for ourselves, for our community and for many other areas of concern. Prayer is the best way to Lean on God and I am so hungry for us as a church to put all our weight on Him for 2018.

With much love,

Frog
