Summer & Friendships

Dear Minster and Friends,

‘As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father’s house. Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as his own soul. ‘  1 Samuel 18

As we approach August the Minster rhythm changes in regards to our summer programme. This means BBQ’s after church, children’s Summer Sundays and for some a well-deserved holiday. It’s the time of year I would like to encourage you to spend time enjoying Stampwell Farm together, taking the time to walk the grounds and watch the sun go down. Summer at the Minster is not to be missed!

In the midst of this beautiful setting, I am reminded that it is the friends that we have chosen to be in community with that makes Latimer Minster a special place.

The unique friendship between Jonathan and David was one built upon the truth that God is present, personal and purposeful in His relationship with Israel. The transformation of the friendship of David and Jonathan, from companions to friends is a choice we can all make. A companion is someone we may be friendly with because they are “useful” for a time. A friend is someone who has chosen you not as a means to an end, but an end in yourself.

I regularly thank God for the friends that I have at Latimer Minster, the blessing of friendship in our community is of great worth and a good and perfect blessing from the Lord. I look forward to choosing to spend time with you all at Stampwell Farm this summer.

With much love,

Dirt track
At the beginning of the week we were visited by someone from a Highways company as they had had a part stolen from their machine, which had caused complications for them laying a new road and in order to sort it out they needed to empty what was currently in the machine. They offered to lay some hard stone chippings for us on some on the track for a fraction of the cost it would usually be. Even though it was a lot cheaper than it would have usually been it was still an unexpected cost for us in the summer months, but we felt led by faith to go ahead with this.

If anyone would like to make a donation towards this you can do this by transferring it to the account;

The Minster Fellowship, Barclays Bank, Sort Code: 20-45-45, Account Number: 33007162 with the reference ‘TRACK’

Any gifts would be greatly appreciated but as always there is absolutely no obligation!

We haven’t been able to have the whole track done but we have been able to make the worst parts a lot smoother. It is absolutely fine to drive on but please do take care when driving on it to avoid creating more pot holes.

Prayer and communion – Wednesday
There is now no prayer and communion on Wednesdays until 12th September.

Encounter: Prayer
There is no Encounter: Prayer on tomorrow night, the next one will be on 28th September.

RETHINK – Mission week 19th – 25th November
We will be having a week of mission where churches and congregation members are being encouraged to host events (big and small) as a way of sharing the gospel and their Christian faith with other people. This could be anything from a coffee morning or an evening event. These can be events hosted by individuals or as minster communities. Depending on schedules, OCCA apologists are available to come to events to lead discussions and answer any questions people might have.
Please think about what you could host during this week as part of the mission and fill in a contact card or email Tash or Dan by 31st July with your ideas.

Every Sunday during August we will be having BBQs together after the service. Food will be provided and everyone is more than welcome to stay after the service for us all to have lunch together!
